Transformer Tank Shunts

Magnetic shunts that reduce stray losses and protect structural elements of power transformer tanks.

Technology and delivery

Description

Magnetic shunts for power transformer tanks are used to control stray magnetic flux around the windings. Their purpose is to reduce local heating of tank walls and structural components, while also lowering additional transformer losses.

Shunts are manufactured from grain-oriented electrical steel to customer drawings and requirements. Their configuration, length, fixing method and protective coating are selected for the specific tank design.

Purpose

  • reduction of local overheating of tank walls;
  • reduction of additional losses in steel structural elements;
  • protection of areas exposed to stray magnetic flux;
  • improved transformer reliability in long-term operation.

Parameters and execution

  • material: grain-oriented electrical steel;
  • application: power transformer tanks, typically for high-power units;
  • product length: up to 5 metres;
  • execution: to customer drawings, sketches or technical specifications;
  • supply: with corrosion protection and transport packaging.

Correctly manufactured shunts help stabilise the thermal condition of the tank and reduce the risk of operating issues associated with local overheating and increased losses.
