Metallurgical Magnetic Shunts

Magnetic shunts and cores for induction furnaces, reactors and inductors used in metallurgical equipment.

Technology and delivery

Description

A metallurgical magnetic core, or shunt, is a key component of induction melting furnaces, reactors and inductors. It consists of thin electrical-steel laminations assembled in a steel frame.

The shunt concentrates the magnetic field around the furnace inductor. This increases inductor efficiency, reduces heating of structural elements and improves the energy efficiency and reliability of the equipment.

Design and manufacture

  • a stacked pack of thin electrical-steel laminations;
  • steelwork in structural or non-magnetic steel to the technical specification;
  • the option of a copper-tube cooling circuit;
  • design adaptation for a specific furnace, reactor or inductor.

Work from drawings or a sample

When documentation is available, we review and adapt drawings for modern manufacturing. When drawings are unavailable, our specialists can visit the site, measure the worn magnetic core and prepare a technical specification for a replacement product.

When revising older drawings, including Soviet-era documentation, we preserve the specified cross-sections and thicknesses of the steel components. This is essential for the shunt's calculated magnetic performance and the service life of the finished product.

Applications

  • induction crucible mixer furnaces of the IChTM series, including IChTM-10, IChTM-20 and IChTM-25;
  • induction crucible melting furnaces of the IChT series, including IChT-6, IChT-10 and IChT-16;
  • GWJ series induction furnaces, including GWJ-0.5-500-0.5;
  • IST-1 type induction furnaces;
  • R-500 reactors and similar equipment;
  • Consarc-type vacuum induction furnaces;
  • TPCh thyristor frequency converters, including TPCh-500, TPCh-320 and TPCh-250.

These products are used in electrothermal equipment for melting, holding and heating ferrous and non-ferrous metal melts.
